Patterned curtains can get a bad rap—aren't they all granny florals, or stupid oversize horse-bit motifs? And don't they always kind of stick out like two big sore thumbs in a room? No and no. Playful and funky and unexpected patterned curtains definitely exist if you go looking for them (see below) and they can be blended seamlessly into your room in a number of ways. The easiest is with paint: Pick your curtains, and then paint the walls a super-desaturated version of one of the colors in the pattern. So if they're orange and gray and white, go with light gray-white or washed-out Creamsicle walls. Another way is to just add some accents in the room that play off accent colors in the curtains: So if you fall in love with a set that's black with little red doodles on them, get a little red pillow, or a red bedspread, or just dress all in red yourself (kidding just a little bit) to make them look at home.
